This coming weekend on Oct 4, some of the Dark Heart Nursery staff will be participating as part of Team Harborside for the Swim A Mile for Women with Cancer. The event takes place right here in Oakland at Trefethen Aquatic Center located at Mills College and is a non-competitive fundraiser benefiting the Women’s’ Cancer Resource Center (WCRC). The WCRC creates opportunities for women with cancer to improve their quality of life through education, supportive services, and practical assistance. The Swim A Mile ensures that the WRCR’s programs and services remain FREE for all who need them. If you would like to support Team Harborside and DHN staff in this event, please donate by visiting our team page at http://www.wcrc.org/swim/profiles/team/id/1449. Your contribution helps make a difference.
The WCRC offers a wide variety of opportunities to learn, build community and give/receive support. They host regular workshops on healthy eating, mindfulness, meditation, stress reduction and more. On Oct 30th 6:30-8pm, Amanda Reiman will facilitate a discussion with local MD’s about the most effective uses of medical cannabis for cancer patients. Please visit the WCRC website at http://www.wcrc.org/calendar.html to register for the workshop and to learn more about their programs. The WCRC is located at 5741 Telegraph Ave in Oakland.
